Passed by the art gallery Show Art in Brooklyn and found this big chunky necklace made of faux amber beads and black ribbon. Show Art houses a affordable flea market in the back of it’s building called Invisible Dogs (named after the invisible dog leash factory that used to call the dwelling home).
The necklace was affordable at $50 but we think we could make one cheaper ;> .
(Sorry about the poor photo, it was shot in a dark factory.)
How to make the necklace:
You’re going to need big beads. The faux amber beads we loved, gave the necklace a lot of character but you could use any colorful bead you wish (we liked these colorful beads below).
You will also need approximately 21 inches of black satin ribbon (we would also use felt). You should measure your own neck for a more accurate length of what you will need.
The next step should be pretty obvious, but just in case your not crafty, we’ll go on. Your going to string your beads onto the ribbon. The holes on these beads should be pretty big, therefore stringing should be a breeze. If the hole is too small to easily slip the ribbon through, you can try attaching the end of the ribbon to a bobby pin, that should make the beads much easier to thread.
